The field changes, but the deeper challenge is internal: staying able to revise a model after it has become comfortable. That requires active reading, experiments, comparison, and the willingness to discard a clever idea when evidence turns against it.
Software practice rewards certainty. Learning requires keeping some uncertainty alive long enough for better structure to appear.
